Spike in Air Quality Health Index shows risk to health is "high".

No change in the air quality advisory, although the light winds  over the area have trapped  pollutants in the airshed, the rain  was expected to help wash some of the particulates out of the airshed.

At 3:00 this afternoon, the twenty-four hour levels were 66 at Downtown, 45 at College Heights and 74 at the BCR site.

This Air Quality Advisory is expected to be in effect until tomorrow (Sunday) morning, with an update to be provided tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m.

This is an interesting one. The AQHI tracks four pollutants and throws them into the formula soup. The readings yesterday afernoon for SO2 were 13, 13, 7, while the readings for NO2 were 4, 5, 7; ozone was almost not on the scale and PM10 was "normal" for an "advisory" level.

So, the question is, why was SO2 so high???? I have not seen an AQHI level as high as this in any of the communities which are tracking by this system.
Let's hope that common sense prevails and the Mayor and the City abandon any plans to build a wood burning power plant downtown!

I am in disbelief that anyone could even consider that idea since the air pollution is already right off the scale!

No level of government should give any funding for that scheme unless it is constructed far away from the City's bowl area.
