A First Nations Mountain Pine Beetle Initiative office has been opened in the Prince George Region.
The FIrst Nations Forestry Council has received  $8.4 million dollars to help deal with the impact of the beetle on lands that are traditional territories for First Nations.
Minister of Forest and Range, Rich Coleman made the announcement during his stop in Prince George today.
Coleman says the funds will help First Nations with land use planning, and create more job opportunities through reforestation and wildfire crews.
The land use plan will involve taking an inventory of spiritual and cultural sites, while noting the impacts for the 80 First Nations in the area that has been hit by the mountain pinebeetle.

The $8.4 million is part of the Mountain Pine Beetle Protocol Agreement the Province signed with First Nations in April 2006 in response to the infestation.
That protocol also promises funding for fire fuel management  on Crown land adjacent to First Nations commuunities,  dollars for research, and inclusion of First Nations on  research and planning groups.

ANOTHER DUPLICATION IN SERVICES. WILL IT EVER END. GETTIN TIRED OF PAYIN TWICE FOR ALL OUR SERVICES IN THIS COUNTRY.WE TAXPAYERS SHOULD START OUR OWN COUNTRY. MIGHT GET RID OF A FEW THOUSAND DUPLICATE BUREAUCRATES. WOULDN'T THAT BE NICE.
What is "fire fuel management"? And who made that up? Research and planning groups? How do I get in on that? I hope reciepts will be available to any taxpayer. What a bunch of collective crap we taxpayers are paying for. In my opinion.
First Nations land use planning?? The beetle are natural, so why do "First Nations" people need to be involved? It not something the "Second Nation" brought about - so it's just any excuse for a money grab.

The First Nations Forestry Council & the British Columbia Ministry of Forests. Two separate forest councils.

Which one is responsible for harvesting most of the timber? Which one is responsible for replanting the trees in this province? Which one has been involved in dealing with this Beetle Problem in the first place?

So, just what is it that The First Nations Forestry Council is going to do with 8.4 Million Dollars? Chester
I know! I know! $8.4 Million dollars will make a lot of new pick up truck dealerships very happy. How stereotypical a comment, eh?
