Regional District of Fraser - Fort George meets today for its regular monthly meeting, but one of the topics of discussion will be anything but the regular fare.

The Regional District's Tom Yates is expected to bring the Directors up to speed on the resignation of Electoral "A" Director Dee Burden.  She resigned last Friday, three days before  appearing in court to plead guilty to defrauding the Royal Bank of more than $30 thousand dollars.

Burden has now been sentenced to one year conditional sentence, one year probation with a curfew and an order that she is not to handle any funds other than her own.  Her situation has sparked the necessity for a by-election.  Yates is expected to outline the information staff will be gathering to prepare for the selection of an elections officer.  That selection is likely to take place at the November meeting.

Also on the agenda for this afternoon's meeting:

  • consideration of proceeding with a by-law to borrow $1.5 million to buy Exploration Place
  • consider an application to the UBCM for funding to deal with pine beetle tree removal from Regional District  properties including Ness Lake region
  • develop a strategy  to recruit and retain volunteers
  • consider appointing Director Art Kaehn to the Omineca Beetle Action Committee
