Representatives from Prince George City Hall, and  from the Regional District of Fraser Fort George are among the civic delegates from all over the province who have gathered in Victoria for the Union of BC Municipalities  annual Convention.

The convention  gets underway today and  goes through to the 27th.  It is the 103rd such gathering  and  will see delegates focusing on policy work, electing a new executive,   connecting with Provincial Ministries and  adopting resolutions.

There will be an address from Premier Gordon Campbell on Friday.  The leader of the Provincial NDP , Carol James, will also address the convention.

The UBCM represents the interests of B.C's 185 municipalities and regional districts.  The convention is the largest meeting of local government officials and is the primary policy-setting forum for municipalities and regional districts.

One of the presentations  has Prince George Mayor Colin Kinsley  joining the other communities who  had a presence at the Winter Olympics in Turin.  They will be talking about how communities can get in the spotlight on the world stage in preparation for the 2010 Olympics.  The presentation is part of a session designed to spark interest in sending a delegation to the Beijing Summer Olympics.
