The Province has launched another resource in its crystal meth battle plan.

This time, it is a school program and a public education campaign worth $3 million dollars.

The project includes:

  • Lessons for the classroom

  • Resources for teachers,

  • A parents’ guide with information parents can use to talk to their kids about crystal meth,

  • A website www.no2meth.ca  which is supposed to have interactive games, and plenty of information, however, at the time of this writing, the website was still displaying a sign saying “we’re under construction”.

  • An advertising campaign.

According to recent studies of B.C. high school students, most(86%)have never used crystal meth or ecstasy, the so called party drugs.  Surveys also indicate that 5% of students in grades 7-12 have used crystal meth, and that most had their first experience with the drug in grade 9 or 10.

Highly addictive, it is estimated 20% of all who try the drug, will be hooked. Repeated use of crystal meth causes brain damage that looks similar to the damage caused by Alzheimer’s or a stroke.  Users may also be paranoid, and suffer from delusions.

This synthetic drug can be made in the kitchen or basement of any home using common household ingredients and ephedrine, the active ingredient in cold medicine.

Time to lay the hammer down on all traffickers of this drug and others. Lives are ruined forever. We cannot let this continue. Chester
I agree, Chester, but who is going to , as you say, "lay the hammer down?"
Certainly not law enforcement.
Certainly not the courts.
Certainly not the governments.
So, tell me, what can the general public accomplish?
They can simply stand back and watch the terrible effects of this drug abuse on their children, friends, relatives, whatever.
Those who have seen people on meth will know exactly the devasting effects it has, and how sickening it is to see.
Destroys an individual-you bet it does, and an addict, presently off drugs, told me a couple days ago drug users like company, so encourage others to become users-even sharing to keep people around for company. I suppose this is why you read of so many congregating in one place.
Not all users have the insight or courage to attempt to produce the drug themselves. That is why is is so important to lock up those that do, and for a very long time.
The laws are too lax, and leniency is the rule of the day.
Lives are being destroyed, and the ones in power to stop the onslaught appear unconcerned.
WHY?
