Province Launches Meth Attack
By 250 News
The Province has launched another resource in its crystal meth battle plan.
This time, it is a school program and a public education campaign worth $3 million dollars.
The project includes:
- Lessons for the classroom
- Resources for teachers,
- A parents’ guide with information parents can use to talk to their kids about crystal meth,
- A website www.no2meth.ca which is supposed to have interactive games, and plenty of information, however, at the time of this writing, the website was still displaying a sign saying “we’re under construction”.
- An advertising campaign.
According to recent studies of B.C. high school students, most(86%)have never used crystal meth or ecstasy, the so called party drugs. Surveys also indicate that 5% of students in grades 7-12 have used crystal meth, and that most had their first experience with the drug in grade 9 or 10.
Highly addictive, it is estimated 20% of all who try the drug, will be hooked. Repeated use of crystal meth causes brain damage that looks similar to the damage caused by Alzheimer’s or a stroke. Users may also be paranoid, and suffer from delusions.
This synthetic drug can be made in the kitchen or basement of any home using common household ingredients and ephedrine, the active ingredient in cold medicine.
