To some it is Duncan Lake, to others, it is Amazay.

Whatever the name,  it is the subject of a meeting this evening at UNBC.

The lake is part of Northgate Minerals plan to develop Kemess North, an open pit gold and copper mine, about 6 km north of  the existing Kemess mine north east of Smithers.

The  proposal would see the lake used as a tailings pond for acid waste.

The Joint Panel review of the project is set to start its hearings in Prince George on Monday. The full week has been set aside for submissions in Prince George.  Later in the month, from the 20th to 24th of November, there will be a session in Smithers.

The "Save Amazay Lake- Stop Kemess North" meeting was initially set to take pace on Wednesday, but the group  changed its plans so it would not conflict with the  air quqality forum held last night in Prince George.

Because of the change in day,  there has also been a change in the lecture room.  Tonight's presentation will take place  at UNBC in lecture room 7-152  (this room number is correct, UNBC Conference Services confirms it).   It gets underway at 7:00 with a presentation followed by a question period.  It is being sponsored by the Northern B.C. Mining Action Group  and P.G PIRG.

Maybe someone from PG PIRG can post to this blog and explain exactly what technical qualifications and credibility they have to speak on this important issue..

http://pgpirg.unbc.ca/whatis.htm

How much of their presentation will be science-based, and how much with be emotional 'environmental' rhetoric?
I think it is all about convenience and money....

it is convenient to use and they don't plan to pay for it....

that is my opinion
