Not many accidents in the City of Prince George, Staff Sergeant Doug Aird say it was a relatively quiet night with few accidents despite the slippery road conditions.

The situation is much different from Vanderhoof - west, as thousands wait for power to be restored. B.C. Hydro crews have been working all night to try and repair the damage done by  the heavy snowstorm that dumped lots of heavy wet snow throughout the region.

There are still problems in many areas: here is a partial list:

Smithers:, Takla Landing, Fort St James, Hazelton, South Hazelton, Fraser Lake, Houston, Telkwa, Morricetown and New Hazelton

The hospital in Burns Lake was operating on backup power, the Pines Seniors Home in Burns Lake was also without power. Power to that town has just recently come back on stream. BC Hydro has its latest power outage information available on line, you can check for information by clicking here

There was one fatal accident during the height of the storm , a crash west of Vanderhoof claimed a life.  Further details not  yet available.

For a time, portions of Highway 16 west were closed between Vanderhoof and Smithers,  the situation is improved this morning.  This morning, road conditions are said to be a mix of slushy, compact snow and icy sections. Complete driving details are available at the DRIVE.B.C. site.

The weather has meant a change to the planned march to mark the anniversary of the death of Ian Bush. The march was to be from 12 kilometres east of Houston along the highway to the memorial site, instead, it started from Elements Restaurant to Sullivan Motors and back.
