The man who was shot in the face  with  an arrow when he stopped to help a motorist along Highway 97 North a  few years back, is outraged.

Paul Serup, says he is outraged by the fact that the man who did the shooting has been released from custody and given an absolute discharge.

Wade Gielzecki, 37 was found not guilty due to a mental disorder after he had been charged with attempted murder in the bow and arrow shooting.

Serup had stopped along Highway 97 in the Pine Pass after seeing vehicle skid marks heading off into the the ditch. As he approached the scene, a man brandishing a compound bow, stepped out of the bush and fired an arrow which struck Serup in the chin then passed through his neck.

Serup was able to get himself into his vehicle and drive to seek help, while the assailant disappeared into the bush. Gielzecki was later captured by police.

Serup spent months in rehabilitation after several of his teeth were knocked out by the impact of the arrow. He also spent months trying to get the provincial government to pay for extensive jaw and tooth replacement after he at first had been offered only a dental plate under the victims of crime compensation.

“I think its nuts that he walks away without even a criminal record after he tried to kill me" said Serup. "He won’t be monitored; he is not compelled in any way to take his medication, it just terrible to think what he could do again."

Serup says "I have been to the Crown Counsel and they say they will have a look at it."

Has the Legal system, Judges, Lost track of reality?????????
Maybe it was just a one time thing. Ain't meds wonderful? A pill for everything imaginable and unimaginable.
Proof that our justice system has fallen off the rails. That's the problem when Judges aren't accountable to the public. They seem to be seated high above everyone else. Why?

All of our elected politicians have turned over the power to a small group of appointed people.

Something is not quite right with the way this has been set up. Anyone else having difficulty with this? Chester
And judges get paid big bucks too! Bummer, eh?
We need to elect the chief prosecutor if we are to have any kind of accountability. I'd also like to see the head of the RCMP accountable to the electorate as well. Judicial appointments should be approved through a legislative vote by all parties.

The current system is one of the insiders that get appointed through political favors.
We have lots of room throughout the far North of BC and the rest of Canada to build facilities for his kind and other hard core criminals where they can't hurt anyone but themselves. If they try to escape they can choose to be a meal for a polar bear or pray they don't freeze to death. Lets see if Mr Harper is open to this idea, since the judicial system doesn't know what to do with these misfits without having to be "barbaric" about it.
I bet Mr. Serup would consider the act against him as pretty barbaric too, not to mention that there is one more person in this world who will not be able to trust enough to help or care about another human being for fear of being attacked. I do know how you feel Mr Serup and hope that in time your inside wounds will heal enough to be able to enjoy your life again. Knowing this creep is out on the streets only hinders that healing.
Immigration judges are appointed. They seem to work fine. Ya, right.
