Prince George Figure Skating Club Coach Alex Sergueev with daughter Katya

Alex Sergueev modestly talks about a life of figure skating which has landed him and his family in Prince George. The new coach of the Prince George Figure Skating Club is a product of the Russia figure skating factory. Sergueev’s competitive career reached the national level of men’s figure skating in a country synonymous with Olympic gold. He left the scrutiny of the judges to join the St.Petersburg Royal Ice Ballet and the Holiday on Ice Touring company before turning to teaching the sport he loves. Coaching figure skating at the club level in Germany further enhanced an already impressive resume.

Prior to Prince George, Sergueev was the head coach of the Tri-Cities Figure Skating Club in Washington.

“It was fun for me to set up a program for the recreational skater,” said Alex Sergueev, who was use to the European way of only coaching the competitive stream of skaters.

He introduced Theatre On Ice to the Tri-Cities Figure Skating Club. Team Competitions based on a theme and choreographic exercise.

“I would like to create a team within a year at the Prince George Figure Skating Club,” said Sergueev. “You perform with costumes, its lot’s of fun.”

"This club has so much potential."

Drop into a practice session with the Prince George Figure Skating Club and you can see the soft spoken Russian providing encouragement and valuable tips to a young skater.

“We are so lucky to have him,” said Leah Spoletini, President of the Prince George Figure Skating Club.
