It started with the theft of an older Jeep Cherokee from the parking lot of the Princess Auto Store on Massey Drive.

An hour later, the same vehicle was noted in a complaint about a suspicious vehicle and attempted theft from Zellers at the Pine Centre Mall, mall security made note of the plate number.

Less than an hour later, on the Hart, an officer was appproached by a driver who said he had  nearly been rear ended by a light coloured jeep. The description resembled the vehicle noted in the Zellers incident.

Then there was a report of a Jeep Cherokee running the red light at Highway 97 and Northwood Pulpmill Road but a member of the public gave police an address where the vehicle had pulled into  a driveway.  Police then found the same vehicle abandoned  at the Mohawk gas station on the Hart Highway.

Officers went back to check out the address that had been provided and  found a suspect entering a stolen red jeep.  The suspect failed to stop for police.   Further down the road,  other officers had set up a spikebelt, but the suspect  drove off the road onto a small trail, where he got stuck in the slush.

Police were able to move in and make an arrest.  Police suspect he was under the influence of crack-cocaine.

A 33 year old man  from Alberta will appear in court later today, Police are asking the Crown to consider seveal charges.

Stealing, running red lights, driving like a jerk, all good reasons to throw the book at him and make an example to the rest of the drivers who think that running red lights, tailgating and aggressive driving are okay driving habits. Does it really make a difference to phone in the license plate number of a bad driver??? Nawwww, I'd be on the darn phone all day long.....
Omitting the stealing part of your description, I have seen clones of this guy over the years in this town. And the penalty is.....?
All cracked out.
Send him back to Alberta for storage. Why should we be responsible to feed and keep him. Chester
I'm surprised that anyone noticed the bad driving. Most people don't seem to know the rules of the road - stopping on the Hart to turn left into the Mowhawk or other businesses crossing the yellow maridian lines, failing to yeild at the exit of the Pine Centre then stopping in the merge lane that turns onto Highway 16, travelling in the left lane of the Hart Highway when this is a passing lane - just to name a few.
