Anti-Smoking Push Likely to Pass: One Man's Opinion

Those businesses that built new "smoking only" rooms at their pubs and bars are not going to win the next round in the war to be able to smoke in their premises.

When first elected, there was a time that Premier Campbell was able to can the smoking ban imposed by the former NDP by shifting the matter over to the WCB effectively killing the ban. That will not be the case this go round and no matter what the small pub owners of the province will seek by way of exceptions, they will be fighting an uphill battle.

BC is simply following the line of other provinces in making smoking in public much more difficult. That move is designed to try and have people break the habit, which has been readily described by many doctors as much tougher than getting off of Heroin or other major drugs.

The Province of course hasn’t taken the tax on the weed off , so on one hand it is a big money maker for them although they will argue that more money is spent on smokers trying to save their health then they receive in taxes.

Regardless, there is a move in not only Canada but in most western cultures to try and bust the people from the habit.

Tough or not, it is going to be very poor sledding for those people who smoke and want to go out to public places, because the next move will be to ban public smoking regardless of where and that is only a flick of a butt away from the legislative grounds.

I’m Meisner and that is one man’s opinion.

Ban smoking in public.

If I want to inhale toxins and fine particulates, I'll go outside and take a deep breath of Canfor air.

Down with smoking.

Having quit the filthy habit myself a couple of years ago, I am all for a non smoking environment where there is the possibility of kids in the area. However, adults are capable of choosing the environments they wish to hang around in and therefore a "smoking room" should be an acceptable alternative. Those who do not like that atmosphere are free to stay away by their own choice.
If they (our government) want to change things for health reasons, why don't they legislate safer tobacco cooking recipes at all the cigarette making factories???? The poison's they have been adding to the mix for the past 30 years (increasingly more potent all the time) are what is killing us. The original effects of tobacco 40 years ago were nowhere near as toxic as they are today.
The original recipe was - Plant it, grow it, pick it, hang it to dry, crumble it, roll it, smoke it.
Once again, we can lay bets on the possibility of our government leaders past and present having their hands in the pockets of the tobacco companies picking up lotsa spare cash for themselves. If it was really about Us the People, the problem would have been curtailed many many many years ago.
What unfortunately seems to be happening is the smokers huddle right outside the doors and to go into the building you are forced to join them in the smoke unless of course you can hold your breath long enough...
Having the smoking outside is fine, but away from entrances would be a good thought as well...
or have a room they can go and keep it all in there???????
seems like not much has been improved on.....
I have to agree with gofaster, lets move the smoking areas away from the entrances. I don't care if the designated area is inside the building or not, just make sure it is being vented to the roof, away from the public. I too have quit smoking in the last couple years, and I hate running the 'gambit' to my vehichle so I can take a breath of clean air.
Ban smoking. Smoking should be illegal like crack and haroin.
