What a start to the NCAA men’s hockey season for Keenan Hopson of Prince George and his teammates. The Maine Black Bears are ranked number one nationally with a 7-0-1 record.  The 6-1 Hopson continued where he left off in his second season of college hockey.  The smooth skating forward who assisted on 19 goals in the Black Bears push to the Frozen Four semi-finals, has 6 points in 8 games this season. Keenan, who just turned 23 years of age, came through the Prince George minor hockey season before parlaying all-star credentials with the Prince George Spruce Kings into a scholarship with the double blue of Maine. Hopson is one of five former BC Hockey League players on the Maine roster.

The UNBC men’s hockey team is one of five teams in the BC Intercollegiate Hockey League. A lack of ice time has forced the UNBC team to play all of their games away from Prince George. The opening road trip to say the least was a bit challenging. Bus problems caused the Northern Timberwolves to arrive just before a 9:45 PM game time against SFU. An 8-2 loss was followed the next night by another 9:45 start and a  3-3 tie against Trinity Western. Then 7:45 the next morning UNBC faced off against the University College of the Fraser Valley, only dropping 3-2 decision to a team playing its first game of the weekend.
