Defense Can Win: One Man's Opinion
By Ben Meisner
You just knew that the BC Lions had the makings of a very fine football club as they headed down the stretch.
Yesterday in winning the Grey Cup they proved that defense can win a football game, and it did.
With Montreal on the 2 yard line the defense was able to not only hold Montreal up ,but created a fumble as well, sealing the victory.
The CFL is more Canadian than even the NHL and the Stanley Cup, although we can’t say that about the players who come up from the south to play in the league, but it has been the one Canadian sport that has retained its own identity in spite of some lean years.
BC Lions winning the Grey Cup assures us in this province that we will have a football club with some teeth again next year and the only real problem that the league faces is trying to get more young people through the turn styles.
The Grey Cup has survived 94 years long with a bout in the USA trying to make it an American game there.
Yesterdays game win by the BC Lions showed the strong support for the league in Canada and we are proud of it.
I’m Meisner and that’s one man’s opinion.
