Agriculture Minister Pat Bell says he welcomes the latest announcement from the federal government.

Federal Agriculture Minister Chuck Strahl says negotiations have re opened into the export of Beef cattle into the US which will expand those shipments from cattle up to 30 months to all ages.

Bell says the demand for what is referred to as Cull animals has been soft as a result of the embargo and prices have dropped to 20 to 30 cents a pound. "We also had a good market for replacement heifers for the US dairy herds and that had dried up."

Bell adds "We used to do a good export of Rodeo cattle into the US and it will be welcome news to have that export back up on the block."

Bell said the biggest obstacle has been the US cattle interests in Montana "My feelings won’t be hurt if their feelings are hurt in the change of restrictions south of the border. "

Mine either. Protectionist bastiches
Mr Bell, in my opinion, is a little parrot...He repeats exactly what mr campbell has told him to say....I don't think any of Campbells "yes sirs" have had an independant thought since getting elected...
Oh well one day maybe at least one more of them with think for themselves....
oh right they get fired if they do!

I agree with Pat Bell on Montana and their Max Bacus representative that is all about protectionism. That said I would be very surprised if Pat Bell actually accomplished anything for all his talk.
I would be surprised as well since he isnt really involved in the negs ...
I never noticed any decreases in the Price of meat in the past few years, so why should I care what they do. You would think that if the sale price of beef was reduced by 20 or 30 cents a pound that this would be reflected in Beef Prices, however no such luck.
