North East Flies High: One Man's Opinion

It may be a little thing, but have you noticed that Ft St John, Grande Prairie and Dawson Creek have quietly taken over the Air Show business in the central and northern part of the province?

There was a time every summer when Vanderhoof used to be the spot where the show took place and it attracted not only area residents but a lot of folks from PG.

Well regardless of how it got switched to PG (and the comment of the day was that we tried to take it away from them because they couldn’t operate it the show in a profitable manner) the show came to this city, lasted a few years.  But instead of trying to build a first class show for this region and spending some real hard time on it, it simply died on the vine.

The result?  Our neighbors to the north spotted an opportunity and now have capitalized on it.

Oh you might say that getting some Olympians to train in PG makes more sense but did anyone ever stop to think just what that air show brought into the community and just what kind of exposure it gave us to the rest of Canada?

Well in the end instead of teaming up with Vanderhoof , Quesnel or any other adjoining communities to make it work, we simply shot it dead and you can’t help but wonder just where are our priorities?

I’m Meisner and that’s one man’s opinion

I have my thoughts about those who moved the air show to PG, but getting past that

I wish the folks to the north well in their plans and hope them great success....

I t isn't all that far to go and the camping is good....
A city that cannot make ice in a controlled enviroment ( Multiplex aka. cn centre) and you expect them to get a whole airshow together....lol
We never missied an airshow in Vanderhoof and we always had a great time. Used to camp on the front row. Volunteered our time. It was a sad day when Pr Geo took it over and forced Vanderhoof to close shop. Reminds me of big box stores.
Well I meant missed
