Why is illegal for us to clear our snow onto the road, but not for Yellowhead Road and Bridge filling our driveway in at night? We are in our seventies and pay to have our drives cleaned, or shovel ourselves only to have it plowed in in the morning. It wouldn't be so bad if there were residences on the other side of the road where the snow could go.
Guess its not as much fun for the drivers.
Good point Swimmer , please contact me at Ben@opinion250.com to tell me off site were you live so I can look into this matter. You and a lot of other people have a ligitimate complaint.

Good idea, Ben. Maybe it would be possible to compile a list of people who are unable to fend for themselves, and the city could have a crew or machine go around and do spot fires, to avoid having people stranded at home.
Sounds wonderful if we can find Kinsley at home for a change....
If people would look after their elderly neighbors a little better, we wouldn't need Kinsley.

My lazy ass neighbor has a brand new top of the line snowblower. He starts it, does his driveway, and parks it. Meanwhile, his 75 year old neighbor with diabetes is out shovelling by hand. So, I repaired my old machine and went and did mine, his neighbor's and my neighbor's. It would be a lot nicer for me if we could split up the work.

No social responsibility whatsoever, man what a great way to live. Until you get old.....

"Think about it."
Driveways are supposed to be cleared.
I don't think Kinsley gives a damn about the elderly.
Elders are not looked after in my neighbourhood either.
Sad commentary.
Maybe there will be a Christmas miracle.
Ben. We actually live out of town on Six Mile Lk. Rd. Swimmer
The city's streets would be cleared much more quickly if they would have equipment which would plow the snow to the side such as is done on the highways and then have smaller equipment follow up to clear driveway entries at houses which have people living in them who cannot clear that windrow.

I believe that is the way it is done in most cities which have significant snowfalls.

We appear to have reverted back to using front end loaders to clear residential streets plus every single driveway entrance. At one time graders were used with a mechanism which would lower a blade at a driveway, thus reducing the extent of the windrows. I have not seen one of those for some time.

So, we get every driveway entrance cleared, the cost of which is that we do not get the streets cleared in a timely fashion.

In the meantime, the crews do not clear the windrows left at intersections, especially those where highways dumps the snow. That was the case yesterday at Domano and Yellowhead.
I grew up in Kitimat and we had a large snow removal force every winter...we budgeted for this however. A grader would plow the snow into the center of the street and literally right behind him came the massive street snow blowers...WHAT A SITE! They'd run the center of the street and blow the snow onto your yard. As a child I would sit in the window and hope that they'd blow that snow onto your yard so you could play in it. Then again, as I stated before. Kitimat, for all it's short commings, knew how to budget for snow removal.
Reasonableman - I just wanted to add that my daughter (who works a 12 hour day) clears the snow for a 70-odd year old lady in her neighbourhood. Not male bashing just a reality.

Oh, and there is a snowblower in our neighbourhood but no help is offered.
We had our streets cleared Sunday Night. My side walk to the street was filled with snow about 8ft high. I suspect that the driver wasnt aware that the sidewalk was there until after he filled it.

It seems to me that they cleared this neibourhood fairly quickly after the snow fell, and I am just wondering if the fact that Monday Dec 4th. was garbage day, had anything to do with it. Normally they take 2 weeks to get our neibourhood done.
I have a snowblower and may actually start it up for the first time in about 5 years if this keeps going. The exercise of clearing the driveway with a hand powered snow shovel is good for me and most other people.

What I find most interesting is that those people with children old enough to shovel the driveway will do it themselves rather than getting their kids to do it.
Forget lazy neigbours; the real issue is the lazy kids, including mine.

I suggested to our two boys, 13 & 12, they could make a pile of cash on Sunday afternoon shoveling driveways.

Nope. Going sliding instead. Then I reminded them they're paying for their own spending at Disneyland in October. Nope; going sliding. Then I told them that if someone asks me if I know any strong, young men who want to make some extra cash, I'll have to answer "no."

So, last time I looked at the stats, Prince George still had a lot of kids aged 12 - 18 that aren't independently wealthy, and the number of starving post-secondary students with massive debts is climbing.

There should be no shortage of snow removers in our city.
Just don't use your real name in the media if you bad mouth city snow removal crews. They have a habit of ignoring whiners. It happened to us. Jest a thought.
