Prince George City Council has set over to budget discussions a request from the Special Needs Advisory Committee.

The request  is for $20 thousand dollars to hire someone to work with the Special Needs Advisory Committee complete the first phase of the Accessible Inclusive Community Cities Program.

Initially it was thought the funding for this position would come from the 2010 Legacy, but that didn’t happen. The Special Needs Advisory Committee is hoping to have a student from the University of Northern B.C. compile the information about  the resources which  make Prince George inclusive and  accessible.  That student would work with two people from the disabled community who coud provide some guidance and suggestions.

This is phase one of a three phase program.  The second phase would identify the gaps in services and supports, and the  third phase would offer solutions to bridging the gaps.

It was only $20,000 for heaven's sake, why not just get on with it. We need a disabled person on Council.
