There will soon be a new kid on the Radio block!

The CRTC has approved a licence for the  Prince George Community Radio Society to operate a community FM radio station in Prince George.

93.1 CFIS is slated to hit the airwaves March 1st of 2007.  With 5 watts of  power, the new station will likley only be heard in the bowl area of the City.  CFIS has planned to air a mix of  pop, soft-rock and country crossover hits from the 50s, 60s and 70s.

The station also plans to add a number of programs dedicated to propmoting local sports and cultural  events, as well as information programming.

Great News...About time we got a station with a little more variety. Get tired of Western all day long......
Great...Another radio station you CAN NOT get on your radio, at the outskirts of town. Why does not someone start a NEW AM station, so People outside the Bowl Area can hear it.
YIPEE !!! SAME OLD _H_T. I'AM WITH DON, A GOOD 50,000 WATT AM STATION TO BLAST THE WHOLE NORTH WOULD BE A WINNER. TOO BAD THAT WHEN YOU ARE STANDING BEHIND A TREE THE ONLY RADIO YOU CAN GET IS KOMO OR KIRO FROM SEATTLE. I GUESS THE BEETLE KILL SHOULD HELP THE LOCAL STATIONS.
Great news. The CRTC has approved another lisence. Anyone know how long and how much effort is required to get through the CRTC hurdles? Give yourself a few years.

They are responsible for what we are allowed to hear and watch. Try and get something you want access to approved? Censorship in action. Chester
I have to agree with Don. FM is basically useless a few kilometers out of town, lets get an AM back.
Nice to see so many positive responses to the Society's 2 years of effort to get to this point. It would be great if our non-profit group had the half million dollars required to start up and operate an AM station. Unfortunately, we do not. We do however have the ways and the means to start an inexpensive low-power FM station with the hopes of generating the capital to bring local radio back to the outlying areas. As to giterdun's comment; WE'RE HOPING TO GIVE YOU SOME DIFFERENT NEW _H_T TO CHOOSE FROM.

Thank you to Chester & Longnecks1 for seeing the positive in our humble efforts.
