Police advise that as of 5:30p.m. Sunday afternoon , Highway 97 South near the BCR site will face major traffic delays. The closing of the highway follows a serious accident. Police are asking motorists to use the old Cariboo Highway around the area.

Meantime police are asking motorists to stay off the roads after rain, combined with  sunny weather have made black ice the rule of the day. Police are saying that as the temperature drops, the ice is developing and roads  are in poor condition.

No sand, no salt! Obviously nobody gets concerned before a whole slew of accidents have happened...

Giant water filled potholes all over the place...

Anybody REALLY in charge???

(Oh, I forgot: it is Sunday!!!).

Might also help if people slow down - saw a 4x4 charge through a puddle today only to find out that the water was deep and that he couldn't control his truck as well as he thought he could. Luckily he drove himself into a snow bank, not another car. Half the battle is getting home without someone else hitting you.
It IS a shocking realization that you have to drive not only your own vehicle, but the other one as well. Anticipation and constant rehearsal for the next surprise seems to be the only defense on the roads. Apparently "sanding" is an option these days, and judging from the forty three tablespoonfulls of sand that has been spread this year so far, that option is rarely picked. The sand is mostly for weight in the trucks so they can get to and from the City yards without skidding. Too bad some of that bonus money that goes to managers isn't used as a reward for doing a good job, instead of being used as an incentive to NOT spend it appropriately. What a "winter city" joke on us !
