While a sub station was responsible for 14,000 people finding themselves in the dark in the down town area yesterday, over 90,000 people have had their hydro power cut by severe storms that have lashed the lower mainland and Vancouver Island.
Here in Prince George power was cut to the down town when a sub station on Patricia blew at 3.20 pm. Power was restored at 6.45pm.
During that power outage, there were some anxious moments when a diesel generator used at the Coast Inn Of The North  fired up to provide temporary power . It made smoke visible at the top of the building and guests were brought to the main floor as a precaution.
In the rural area of Chief Lake, Thompson and Fish road power was restored at 12.30 am
this morning after it was also knocked out last night.
At Prince Rupert winds have knocked out at least 500 homes leaving them without power.
