This is not the first time for Moose encounters. I am surprised no one has died yet. Tyner Blvd is the only Blvd in town with NO street lighting. Alot of people walk, run and jog that stretch of road as well. Maybe someone will put the work to the powers at be to put lighting up.
Why increased lighting????

It won`t slow down the traffice or increase the vision of the mooose/meese.

The problem is that this is a historic pathway for moose.
I was stuck in traffic during that accident tonight....it was a hard hit it looked like as I could see very extensive damage to both vehicles.

My thoughts and prayers to all involved.
I see moose at least once a month on that stretch. If you walk in the bush just past UNBC towards Forest for the World there is a huge swamp that runs parallel to Tyner Blvd that is packed with moose. At least ten in eye sight at a time.
I wrote an email to our illustrious mayor some three or four years ago asking about exactly the same thing - what are the plans re lighting sidewalks or bike paths on Tyner. The reply at that time was that it was not in the plans - too expensive yadda yadda yadda. I guess thet are waiting for someone to get killed and then they will use it as some sort of poltical billboard by supporting a plan. Colin et al never do anything unless they can see a direct political benefit for themslves.

Increase the lighting so the moose can see the cars and get out of the way and if we put in a moose crossing sign then at least we will know where they are going to crossing... :) :)
meese?

1 moose, 10 moose no meese. :)
goose .... geese

moose .... meese ...

English is the simplest language in the world. That is why so many speak it. Now, if we can only get everyone to speak it correctly .....

moose ... meese

caboose ... cabeese ....

;-)
I think one of the best things about this site is the user comments, ranging from intelligent and well thought out, rants and raves, off the cuff remarks, totally off topic post, and ones that just make you laugh, such as the above post. Kudos to all the regular posters.

Back to this topic about the many meese on Tyner Blvd. Lighting would help us humans see the moose easier, but would be rather expensive. Signage and drivers that actually slow down in theory would probably help a lot, but getting drivers to slow down is extremely difficult. I am always passed when I do the speed limit through Jasper's many slow for wild life zones.
Those moose have been hanging around that area for a long time, I personally look forward to possibly seeing them when I am in the area. It breaks my heart that some jerk who wouldn't slow down due to driving conditions (dark and wet) caused an innocent animal to suffer and die needlessly. I hope his car takes a long time at the shop and his insurance won't cover a rental.
Bad Karma to the speeders who don't know when to slow down for safety sake. Good Karma to those who accidently get in their way, may there be an extra beacon of protection surrounding them. So glad it wasn't some kids taking a stroll along the roadway.
There will always be speeders because there will always be ignorant people who truly believe the rules do not apply to them. I told my kids - speeding by choice is one thing, knowing WHEN NOT TO SPEED is the difference between being stupid and just taking a chance. Maybe you all think it's just a stupid moose, but I think it was a stupid driver. My sympathy to the moose and his/her beloved family of moose.
