DuPont Canada will huddle with Mayors, Community Leaders,  and First Nations representatives today at a closed session of the Bioenergy Opportunity for Northern Trust Communities being held in Prince George today.
DuPont is expected to put to the table , a plan to construct small ,combined heat and power energy systems in rural communities across Central and Northern BC.

Individual energy systems are expected to be in the 1-3 Megawatt range, although some systems may be significantly greater capacity up to 10 Megawatts.
A 1- mega watt system requires about 40 dry tonnes per day, or the equivalent of 2-3 chip trucks. Biomass costs would be optimized over a ten year period by using a mix of forest and agriculture sources that match low cost with consistent quality.
DuPont is looking for a sustainable source of forest and agricultural waste (biomass fuel) for a minimum ten years ,  access to the BC hydro electricity grid, a need for excess heat to be used with the community at a reasonable return for any investment required , and a positive interest from those communities interested in a Bioenergy plant.
DuPont has been playing a low profile on their interest in the market of Bioenergy, although DuPont’s Manager, Business Development for the company will speak to the meeting to outline their plans.

Now we are getting somewhere.

Small, local plants, well designed with best available technology to reduce particulates to a mimimum, located away from the airshed the community population is living in; sequester as much of the CO2 on top of that; cuts down transportation time and distances thus reducing the pollution and increasing safety and convenience for the drivers.

I recall posting something to this effect some weeks ago, that if the technology is there, it might be more lucrative to try returning to smaller plants closer to the wood, rather than these mega plants.

Sounds like the European systems to me.
DuPont??? That is scarey. Tell me about them!

That says it all. Would they be looking for tax dollars to enhance the profits of DuPont? If they are they knew where to come and that would be to our Mayor with more dreams.
