Regular gasoline jumped by 3 cents a litre last night, to 99.9 cents just in time for those heading out for the holidays .

Several gas stations led the jump at the pumps, which raises the price of regular fuel by 44 1/2 cents a gallon in the past month.

The only bright spot was Hixon where the price was 93.9 cents a litre Thursday night.  In Quesnel the price was 94.9 cents.

If you're heading out of town for the holiday, don’t fill up in Prince George , unless of course you want to feed the Major Oil company Scrooges.

No surprize, just greed by the oil companies.
And here I thought the Grinch was just a fairy tale character!! Merry Christmas anyway!!
Record profits this year and no increase in the price of crude - no other reason but greed. Disgusting!
What ever happened to Petro Can keeeping Canadina gas prices based on Canadian oil supply and demand? The oil companies must have really pushed for that one to be privatized.

I say boycot Mowhawk if anyone because they are owned by the local Husky refinery and so would be the most likely market leaders....
Annie, in fact there has been an increase in crude oil. Since Nov.1 crude has increased 4.93% while at the pumps gasoline has increased only 3%. So what if the companies are making profits, is that not the objective of any business? If boycotting is the answer, then maybe boycott driving altogether so demand goes down.Just think if everyone stopped driving then we could put those 'greedy' companies out of business and have better air quality, and a healthier lifestyle as bonuses.
The is the only business that I know of in the world, where one cartel namely OPEC is openly allowed to manipulate supplies in order to keep the price at a certain level.
There are several businesses that can control the cost's to consumers. EG the major banks in Canada seem to keep their fee's at high levels and for the most part we pay them no questions asked. The new x-box came out in low supply so the consumer would have to pay more if they wanted one. Most of these businesses understand if the consumer wants/needs the product they will pay for it. Until such time as demand wanes prices will stay high.
Husky supplies the gas to most of the gas stations in Prince George. I learned this after a short work training at Husky.
Amazing-the public has no qualms demanding higher wages, and then complain when prices increase. Give me something, and take nothing, that is their attitude. I wonder if property taxes increase for the service stations? Do employees work for the same wage year after year? Does an owner get a break on milk and bread when he shops? Is insurance higher? Do his utilities increase? Nah! Why would I mention such paltry reasons for putting the price up?
I think it would be best to boycott all the grocery stores who increase the price of milk?
And $6.99 for a 2 litre container of ice cream?
Wow-talk about highway robbery. Do not buy milk and ice cream-just for a week-that'll make them pay attention!
The public in Prince George seems to derive a great deal of satisfaction complaining bitterly when gas prices go up.
I do hope somewhere along the way they get a "reality" check.
Wait until they start making payments on their plastic, and look at 20% plus interest on some. Maybe will not be so quick to haul it out to purchase for awhile. And ever hear of banks charging to close an account? Yep-that is happening also.
Gracious me-there is a multitude of subjects to rile a person!
Merry Christmas-and happy driving-slow down-stay accident free! And try to stop shopping.
I do believe it has simply gotten to be a habit!
Zoom your examples don't make sense, I can get PC financial absolutely free, the XBOX despite being in low supply had a set price which didn't change regardless of supply. My problem with oil prices is they're set by rumour of short supply and OPEC's manipulation, and it's something I need every day just to get to work and back. I don't need an XBOX.
PC Financial, which is a subsidiary of CIBC claims that they are free. However in reality they have just found a way to bury the cost's so people dont see them. Banks do not do anything for 'no cost', if they did the profits every quarter would not be where they are and this would disappoint shareholders. Secondly one does not 'need' fuel to get to work everyday. There are things called bikes and public transit...we just choose to drive our gas consuming vehicles to work. Have a great Christmas to all.
You do not need an XBOX????!!?? ... good Lord, EVERYONE needs and XBOX!!!!

(PSST .... what's an xbox?)

;-)
I understand that with adjustment for inflation, the prices of gasoline this summer, which is when it was above $1.10, was in the same range as the previous high point in 1980 or so.

Has anyone looked at the cost of all the communication equipment they attach to these days when compared to 1980 for instance?

land line telephone
cell phones for the family
internet
cable

In our case the amount of money spent on the above communications use costs at least twice as much as gasoline costs for monthly local transportation. In 1980 that may have been about equal and in 1970 the gasoline costs were at least twice as much if not more than basic telephone, since none of the other opportunities existed.

Let us not even talk about the increased cost of the hardware for both the communication and transportation. At least cars are still good for the same length of time as they were previously. Cannot say the same for communications equipment.
The thing that gets me about these gas prices is they don't make sense. Why can I buy it for less 100 Km from the refinery then right next door to the refinery?
Owl... I think an xbox is something you would have devorced.
It appeared this afternoon that some stations retained their sanity and the price never went up...
to those I will give my business in future...
the rest of ya, can stick your noses up my exhaust pipe...
"The thing that gets me about these gas prices is they don't make sense. Why can I buy it for less 100 Km from the refinery then right next door to the refinery?"

For the same reason that you can buy many things for less in some places than you can in another. There are many factors which go into pricing a product. Distance from manufacturer is only one of them.

*smiles* to wrinkledawg...

We bought gas for 96.9 minus discount this morning. I was not able to find a 99.9Cent station. Must have been the Shell on 15th. The routes I travel, that is typically the first one to raise and the last one to lower the price.
Actually Owl the Petrocan on 20th upped their price...

And the governments are not going to investigate these price increases unless they are really really stupid as they get their big share for every increase, on second thought they might not even investigate then as i believe all the MP's and MLS have expense accounts so why would they
I filed up last night at the 15th ave Chevron ( just off the bypass) they were still 96.9, although i drove past several others already up to 99.9 on my way to the Chevron.

Merry Christmas
Oh and if heading south as i do frequently.
The Esso in laclehache is always far cheaper than any other station from PG to cache creek.
Its the one right beside Clancy's restaurant.
That Esso was in the mid-80's when I drove by yesterday. I am going to start shopping there on my way in / out of PG
