Jim Pattison, President of the Pattison Broadcast Group which owns and operates PGTV, "The Drive", and "The River", has just announced he will  match dollar for dollar, the amount donated by  British Columbians to  help restore Stanley Park.  He says he will donate up to one million dollars to the effort.

Pattison says  he pratically grew up in the park which has been nearly flattened by a series of  severe storms.

Hot off Pattison’s announcement, Telus announced it would donate $100 thousand dollars to the effort, so Pattison is already on the hook  for  a hundred grand and the  goal of raising $2 million to  clean up and do some restoration work  is on its way.

Donations over $50 will  be issued a tax receipt.  Donations can be mailed to the

Great story. My hat is off to Jimmy Pattison.
My hat stays on, and my money stays in my pocket.
We sure saw a lot of donations heading north from the good old south to assist with all this removal of beetle kill, now did we not?
We complain endlessly about our tax dollars leaving the north to be spent on niceties for the south, and then we feel blessed because a tax receipt will be issued if we donate a couple grand for a tree replacement in Stanley Park.
Frozen brains must be the order of the day-or are the bush bunnies just surfacing?
Don't despair-you can just bet the provincial gov't and maybe even the feds, will come through with some dough to help those poor unfortunates get back their tourist attraction.
Ignorance is bliss-so stay happy!
Good for Jimmy, he has the bucks and will end up writing it all off anyway never missing a nickel. trusted is right though he missed the real reason to build up the park again....the 2010 olympics are coming, can't have Van looking too crappy. Seems we have had a pile of trees blow down lately where are the dollars for that?
Good that the Vancouverites are donating to the rebuilding of the park. As much as I love Stanley Park, it is time for the North and the Interior to get the funds for the beetle kill. The Province and the Feds need to step up to the plate - we've been dealing with this issue for years now not weeks. Our parks have been devastated, our school yards, and our homes. Not going to be impressed to see the governments give to the lower mainland while we wait and wait and wait!
