Black Orchid Raises Stink :One Man's Opinion

The City dropped the original ball in the matter of the Black Orchid Escort Agency and now, faced with egg on their face, is trying to stretch the matter out further by continuing with a court action.

Mr. Justice Chamberlist ordered the City to hand over the license for the years 2004, 05, 06 and process a 2007 license.

Black Orchid was doing no more than they were entitled to under the existing zoning, and while the zoning may now be changed that doesn’t mean that the City can now willy nilly refuse a license. It would be rather interesting to see just what the court costs were in the matter because the Judge in question ordered the City to cover the costs of The Black Orchid.

Collins has held all along that her home address acts only as a telephone answering service for setting up appointments in other locations.
The City, not the Black Orchid Escort Agency dropped the ball when it originally allowed the business to open.

Had there not been complaints from the neighbors, the business could have conceivably continued without any problems. It was however nearing election time when the whole issue broke and given that the people making the decision were not using their own money to force the fight, the issue ballooned out of proportion.

It is as a side bar interesting to note that while the City handed out a heavy fist to the Black Orchid agency, you rarely hear a peep about the problem of hookers working the streets in the Queensway area which raises the question of just how do the powers that be feel about that issue?

Instead of looking at the whole matter of prostitutes working in the city, City Hall chose instead to try and slam dunk one of the few operators who was trying to operate in a legal fashion in the city.

For trying to operate in this manner, she was subjected to the heavy hand of the city.

I’m Meisner and that’s one man’s opinion.

I have my thoughts why but don't think i should air them here...

I can think of a few other home base businesses that I would like moved to industrial areas that I am sure claim to only be an answering service as well....
Does she have scruples and morals when it comes to marriage and children? Does she send married men home to their wives and children home to their parents? Does she protect the health and well being of her employees and their customers? Is she discreet?

Prostitution is one of the oldest professions, I don't believe there are any laws tough enough to actually enforce it's extinction, however, if it remains against the law, it keeps the activities low key, which is what the majority of society actually prefers.

Shame on City Hall for allowing licensing for an "escort" service located right across the street from an elementary school. And shame on the owner for thinking it was okay in the first place, she certainly could have chosen a better and more appropriate location.
I noticed that it took a few days for this item to be placed here. A certain party, who sure gotta lotta ink back when this was a earthshaking issue wasn't mentioned in our daily rag. Certainly if the city won, I am sure the party (whose name does not elude me) would be grandstanding and jumping fer joy at his prospects of maybe being our new mayor. Alas, it din't happen. The city lost. This certain individual I will not name pledged half his councillor salary to charity. Wasn't that nice? I wonder if it was a registered charity so he can write off the donation to keep his day job taxes lower? What an idea, eh? Anyway, in closing, again I have to say I was not amused by how long this item took to be posted. Maybe the potential badmouthing of certain individuals has to be avoided. After all, we sure got a lot of lawyers looking fer work in these parts.
Well, well, a "holier than thou art" speaking her mind. Well done-whynotyou!
Of course she has morals and scruples. Don't we all?No, she does not send married men home to their wives. Why do you think the guys are there?
She is actually saving marriages, as if the guys didn't have this little fun on the "side", (one married guy said he didn't know they moved it), he would probably just walk out on little wifey and leave her bed for good. You know the old saying-familiarity breeds contemp-and who is more familiar than a married couple-and many times, who are more contemptuous?
Yes, I am sure she is health conscious. Condoms are the rule of the day-or night-at all times.
I really think if the majority thought much about it-they would be all for brothels-where there is safety for the prostitute, and medical exams-and, moreover, taxation on income received for services.
John schools are so ridiculous they hardly deserve mention. These fellows are not exploiting women. They are simply paying for a service rendered. A joint agreement-consulting adults=nobody elses business.
Yes it is the oldest profession, but the most honest. If the quote is $100.00 bucks-there is no negotiating-it is $100.00 Sure beats getting hit by another profession-like legal fees. Mind you, I am giving reference to professional prostitutes. I do consider it a profession. And I understand some are excellent at their trade. Can't say this for all professions??
I do not think she deals with "children" so no need to worry about sending non existents home to parents. She deals with adult only ladies.
This Mayor and council are not the guardians of morality in this city. Nor are the cops. Better they stick to raiding crack houses and then releasing them all. They are experts at ridding this city of real crime. Now is the time NOT to take me seriously. Re the cops, that is.
Furthermore, her location has nothing to do with her telephone line. I lay you odds, you have never seen a prostitute loitering outside her residence. She provides a service, and I bet she makes a pile of money doing just that.
Such a bitter pill for city hall to have to swallow. All due to their own stupidity. Bet that city lawyer made a barrel full-all at the taxpayers expense.
Glad she got Chamberlist. Justice has been served.
Trusted says: "The Mayor & Council are not the guardians of morality in this city".

So, just what is it that we have elected them to do? Protect us. Protect our property. Manage our city and our resources. Decide what is appropriate and what is not appropriate as far as businesses allowed in this city. Make decisions that affect our right to a peaceful existance.

I for one will continue to lobby for more honesty, more integrity, higher morals always and everywhere. I prefer it started at the top, in government, in leadership and in business. Chester
Wow, I must say some residents appear to be "off the wall."
If people think this Mayor and council could possibly be guardians of our morals, they are out to lunch.
How long have you been around?
All kidding aside-I am a firm believer prostitutes are necessary, and even though people think they are a necessary "evil", this is not so. I know of women who would gladly hand the old man $100 bucks to go out and buy some, and they have no intention of splitting the sheets. Couples derive a great deal of satisfaction and contentment in the safe haven of their home, and the woman cooks, cleans, shops, and keeps the home dutifully. She draws the line at the sack! So the old man pays a couple hundred bucks a year for his jollies! So be it as far as the woman is concerned. The home is not split, the kids believe a happy home is where they will arrive at when coming home for family get togethers, and nobody is hurt. Better the guy considering rape go to a prostitute and save harm from an unsuspecting female.
So argue that one.
Far more harm is being done with drugs, and the city pays the cops to bust drug operations, and the incarcerated hit the streets again within hours, back in operation. The harm done by these individuals is unquestionably disastrous to many
families and friends of those who become addicted. I lay you odds there is not anyone on council who can readily offer any statistics re drug offences, or locations.
So crime is rampant in this city.
Concentrate on the areas which are in need.
Leave Black Orchild alone-as your screams of objection mostly fall on deaf ears.
Take care of your own morality, and the Mayor and council will not have to-or will they???
Your call!
"Decide what is appropriate and what is not appropriate as far as businesses allowed in this city."

I do beleive that is not within a City's jurisdiction. That is why the City keeps on losing these battles in court.

If a community believes in a vegetarian lifestyle, and a company wishes to set up an animal processing factory in that community, then there is nothing a community can do about it within the law, other than regulating it to the extent that a community can regulate such land uses. Those regulations must be reasonable and not more onerous than the average community.

So, the only real option left are citizen groups conducting protests, which will then be followed with the plant not building or them taking court action against the protesters.
And how long do these citizen group protests last?
They appear to fizzle out rather rapidly.
This case over the escort service not being issued a licence was sheer stupidity on the part of the city. Milburn holding a public meeting in the school was another act of foolishness.
Egg on their faces-looks good on them.
