Weather Notes:One Man's Opinion
By Ben Meisner
The wild winter that we have been having this year should come as no surprise.
A few years ago climatologists were suggesting that the result of global warming will likely be wild swings in the kind of weather that we receive.
Well true to form, that’s exactly what we have been getting in the past three seasons.
The previous two years we had hardly any snow and some pretty nice temperatures. Even the people of Vancouver were crowing about just how nice the lower mainland weather can be. That was last year and now they are talking about the 15 storms that have hit the region so far this winter with a few months to go.
In 2005 it was after Christmas when we started to receive snow of any measurable quantity, which simply isn’t the case this year.
Back in October we got our first dump and it hasn’t let up ever since. Now there are those who say what bloody global warming you are talking about? But that is exactly what has been predicted. The temperature in this region has gone up a couple of degrees and we have been receiving more of that 0-degree weather which results in snow.
On the east coast they have been so happy they could pinch themselves. They have enjoyed green grass and mild temperatures nearly all winter. But they may not remember last year when the heavens opened up and the snow fell in record amounts.
We all should be aware that just because we’re getting hammered that others won’t, just isn’t the case. Southern Ontarionknows that now, and the Maritimes are bracing for a major ice storm.
Don’t like the weather? Just wait five minutes.....
I’m Meisner and that’s one man’s opinion.
