The Coroner’s Inquest into the police shooting death of Kevin St. Arnaud has resumed in Vanderhoof.
A former Vanderhoof resident, Silvia Isaac, has told the inquest she got off the bus from shopping in Prince George on December 19th , 2004 and was walking home to her apartment, when “I heard voices with someone calling someone an asshole, bastard, you fucking asshole, stop, stop, stop. Then I could hear grunting sounds like someone being kicked, unh, unh, unh. Right after I heard that, I heard someone say stop, stop, ok, stop, stop, then I heard three shots.”
Isaac went on “At that point my boyfriend and I headed for home and I said, I should phone the police and Dennis said, don’t call the cops, bad things happen to you when you get involved with the cops around here.”
Under cross examination she continued to say there were only two voices, one that was swearing, and using lots of “f-ing words, and yelling stop, stop, stop, and then he said get back here, get back here you bastard. Then I heard pop pop pop.”
Isaac testified that when she and her boyfriend got to her apartment, they were afraid to turn on the lights “We just sat there in the dark looking out the window for a long time. It stayed with me for a long time, I was afraid. I thought after, maybe I shouldn’t have gone to the police.”
After her boyfriend had left the apartment the next day, Isaac went to police and gave a statement.
The inquest continues.
