When Constable Ryan Sheremetta of the Vanderhoof RCMP detachment was set to testify into the shooting death of 29 year old Kevin St. Arnaud, his arrival was reminiscent of the way former Provincial Court Judge David Ramsey made his entry into the court…through a side door.

When the Inquest was in session, the Coroner and members of the jury had taken their seats, the lawyer representing Sheremetta left her seat and went out of the Court room.

Three and half minutes later she returned to the court room with Const. Sheremetta, who had the benefit of being in an office out of the sight of the media who had been awaiting his arrival.

After he testified that he feared for his life and shot Kevin St. Arnaund three times, the inquest took a recess at which point Sheremetta was whisked out the court room through the door reserved for the jury

In the Coroner’s court, people who are called to testify can sit in the court room during the proceedings and do not need to wait in the lobby to testify.

Sheremetta was not in the court room prior to being called as a witness.
