Police car blocks access to Brunswick from 5th Avenue

A portion of downtown Prince George has been evacuated this afternoon as police investigate a bomb threat.

RCMP Constable Gary Godwin says the call came in just before 3 p.m., claiming  explosives had been placed in the Synovate Building at 4th and Brunswick.

Police and City Hall crews have now cordoned off the downtown from 2nd avenue to 5th, and from Brunswick to Victoria.  A special bomb sniffing dog is on the way from Vancouver.

In addition to the employees working in the suspect building and neighbouring businesses, a day care centre at the corner of 5th and Brunswick had to be evacuated.  There were 28 children at the day care centre when the threat was called in.

The special dog squad will check the area to ensure all is safe before anyone will be allowed to return to the area.  The area is likely to be off limits until at least tomorrow morning.

Damn scary. I just did a tick tick tick post on the Jay Hill thread at the same time. Freaken coincidence. I hope they catch the guy, because threats like that can cause a lot of problems. IMO its on par with terrorism itself. Recently heard the the FLQ was being resurrected in Quebec and that they were planning a major Canadian terrorist attack in the new year. Could have just been sensationalism on the part of the media, or we could have another Quebec problem in Canada?
Disgruntled worker maybe!
Speaking of tick, tick, tick, I once dropped my watch into sheepdip and haven't had a tick from it since!
