Haze can still be seen over the City on this cloudless day

After three days, the first Air Quality Advisory of 2007 has been lifted.

The advisory went into effect on Friday afternoon, with combustion sources being blamed for the high level of fine particulate matter in the airshed above our city.

Clear skies and little wind over the weekend didn’t help -- keeping the particulate trapped above us.

Twenty-four hour PM10 levels were 35 Downtown, 45 at College Heights and 46 at the BCR site at 10:00 a.m. this morning. Levels of PM2.5, which are the finer particles associated with combustion sources, were 19 Downtown, and 22 in College Heights.

The Air Quality objective for PM10 is 50 μg/m3 for a 24-hour average.

The Ministry of Environment advises, "All residents should be aware that, although the Ministry only issues advisories when the air quality objective is exceeded, health effect risks from fine particulate start well below that level. The Air Quality objective for PM10 is 50 μg/m3 for a 24-hour average.

For more information on particulate matter levels please call the 24 hour Ministry of Environment Air Quality Index Line at 565-6457 or check the Ministry’s website at http://wlapwww.gov.bc.ca/nor/pollution/environmental/air/index.html.

Bylaw? Who cares? Are they going to send out an enforcement officer with a big fan to blow the air away? A bylaw does not change anything. These advisories have been going on for decades before and after the bylaws. Regualtions to cut emissions from industries over a reasonable time period is what is required.

The clock on this site is about 7 minutes fast
This was achieved with the help of BreatheSafe, AirSafe, SpinSafe, and ParticulateSafe.

Hey, what are those big towers of billowing smoke in the picture ? Hopefully THEY don't contribute to the air quality. Hopefully it is just the weather's fault.
WeatherSafe.
Those are holograms.
I thought they were space ships.
I think what you are seeing is contrails from kinsleys jet taking off to another exotic location on the tax payers dollars ............
If anyone thinks Kinsleys gives a damn about the taxpayers attitudes towards his frequent trips-just don't waste your time voicing acceptance or rejection.
He does exactly as he pleases, and your opinions border stupidity.
He is the Mayor-and you, the taxpayers, are simply the means in which he can satisfy his wants and needs-and that includes travel plans.
The new City Manager is obviously the strong, silent, type.
Quietly giving his stamp of approval.
Once again, Kinsley is in charge.
Nothing has changed!
Wake up and smell the coffee.
We encountered (on several occasions) a level of air pollution in Quesnel which appeared to be much worse than our worst days! Does anybody know if Quesnel issues air advisories and how often in a typical year?

Elderly people we know in Quesnel often can't even go outside because they have breathing problems and the air is so thick with pollution that they immediately choke on it.
