’You’re Hired!’

If Donald Trump was at UNBC today, he would be uttering those words to Stephen English.

The recent Bachelor of Commerce grad was spokesperson this afternoon for a group of approximately 40 students who just returned from Western Canada’s largest business competition with two first place finishes in Accounting and Marketing and thirds in International Business and Overall Participation.

English says when he first approached JDC West about competing in the event, it was suggested UNBC students might want to "observe" for their first year.  English says he took that as a challenge and never looked back.

He says there were so many components to preparing for the competition: from working on business plans, to securing corporate sponsorship and working with a local charity (the students raised $5-thousand dollars for Breast Cancer Research).

"It helps our students in regards to bridging the gap between academics and the working world and helping to facilitate that transition between their academic career and university degree, and moving off into the work force, " says English.

UNBC President Don Cozzetto congratulated the students on their remarkable achievement and couldn’t resist a little dig, noting that on their first year in the competition they beat both UBC and SFU.

The School of Business is the university’s largest program.

This is excellent news that should be spread far and wide through the media hopefully. Its is a recruiting gold for the university.

It would play very well in China for international student recruitment considering the tens of thousands of international students that come to attend those inferior universities to the south....
Kudos to the students. Just goes to show you that going south for an education is not all it is banged up to be.
Maybe we can keep them here to run the University and stop the lay offs from happening in the future again.
News release Vancouver BC Jan 29,2007.

Undergraduate students from the Sauder School of Business at UBC turned in a successful performance at the 2007 JDC West Competition, held in Vancouver from Jan 19 to 22 winning six medals total, including 2 gold medals.

The Sauder team, captured first prize in the categories of Business Strategy, and Human Resource Management. They also won silver medals in Entrepreneurship and Taxation, and bronze medals in Accounting and Finance. Additionally students from Sauder won first place in the athletics competition, and second place for overall participation.

Have a nice day.
never trust a guy wearing a pink tie to look after your money. Or one with dipped hair either for that matter. these guys/gals look suspect to me.
no need to welcome me back, I won't be staying.
This picture was just too tempting to pass up.
Cheaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasy!
There will be 9 separate case study competitions as follows:

Accounting - UNBC + ? + UBC
Business Strategy - UBC + ? + ?
Entrepreneurship - ? + UBC + ?
Finance ? + ? + UBC
Human Resource Management - UBC + ? + ?
International Business - ? + ? + UNBC
Management Information Systems
Marketing - UNBC
Taxation - ? + UBC + ?

Overall Participation ? + ? + UNBC

That makes 2 two first place for each university 2 second place for UBC and two third place for each university.

So, 4 for UNBC and 6 for UBC. On the CKPG news tonight they stated UNBC came back with more than any other school.

So, again, with this level of "literacy" in the media, how can the readers be any more "literate"?

That aside, The UNBC group obviously did quite well. I wonder how both would rate against Queens?
On a side note, did you see how badly the Citizen covered the Calendar issue at the school district board meeting. I was there and what was said and presented to the board was totally different than what was on the front page of the paper ! Got to watch these the slant on things thats for sure.
