Thieves who cut through a fence at B.C. Hydro’s Sub-station along Highway 16-East to steal equipment caused an oil spill that’s expected to be quite costly to clean up.

B.C. Hydro just discovered the spill, but the RCMP says the time-frame of the break-in is uncertain and may have been a few days ago.

Once on the property, police say the vandals broke into a storage shed and stole a number of brass fittings off an inactive transformer.

It’s that vandalism that caused the spill.  B.C. Hydro is uncertain of the quantity of oil spilled, but has taken protective measures to mop up the mess.

At this point, no dollar figure is available on the fittings stolen, but RCMP say the clean up costs are likely to be substantial.

Hydro has notified Provincial Emergency Program officials about the spill.

P.C.B. in the transformer oil.
Gee, I sure hope the thieves don't get skin cancer, they might sue B.C.Hydro.
metalman.
All that oil and yucky stuff around, I am sure the bad guys must have left fingerprints galore. C.S.I. Prince George...get on this case. You have one hour minus commercials. Open and shut case. Right? Don't ferget the alibi scenario.
Substation on Hwy 16 EAST? Maybe someone could enlighten me as to where this station is located.
Install surveillance cameras and electrify the fencing - catch them and don't release them, make them do serious time, confiscate whatever they have, vehicles, houses, bank accounts to pay for the damage!

If we are too spineless to get tough we shouldn't be whining about it or even reporting it because it is a complete waste of time.
Well actually if they just take the ground wires off the fences they will do a good job of electrocuting any one who messes with them :). Oh wait maybe we can get someone to steal them for scrape :)
will save on policing, court, and jail time and dollars is these guys were killed by elestrocution
