Prince George has hit the international travel scene with an announcement by Air Transat that it  will offer flight from this city direct to Puerto Vallarta come December 20th.

The flights will leave the city every Tuesday from December until March 21st.

West Jet will be the carrier working on behalf of Air Transat, and the flight will take place on their 737 jets which hold 138 people.

A Transat spokesman says "We have known for some time that the north is a very good market for travel and an international departure lounge makes it all possible."

The Prince George Airport Authority has been working for some time on the project, they hope that in the not too distant future that with an extension of the runway, much larger jets will be able to use this handling facility.
