Prince George Fire Rescue was called out to a reported explosion at Praxair on Central Street just before one this afternoon.

Deputy Fire Chief Dale Kronebusch says an employee reported that he had heard a loud bang, followed by a deep hiss, and then the fire alarm went off.

Kronebusch says crews from two fire halls responded to the scene.  All employees were waiting outside upon their arrival.

The Deputy Fire Chief says an investigation at the scene has determined that the problem stemmed from a malfunction in the building's sprinkler system and a maintenance firm has been called in to fix the defect.

Praxair remains open and it's business as usual.

If that place was on fire I wouldn't want to be within a mile of there.
Employees evacuate a hazardous area, while the local firemen respond to investigate an unknown hazard in their canvas suits.

Imagine how they must feel responding to calls when they know an evacuation has been ordered.

The truth is that they fly by the seat of their pants most days when they respond to situations that others are fleeing from. I hope their guardian angels are on those trucks with them. Chester
