Silken Laumann To Open Northern Winter Games

Swimming and basketball kick off the Northern B.C. Winter Games in Fort St. John this morning.

More than 100 athletes making up the Fraser-Fort George team left the city yesterday for the bus ride north.

Public Relations Chair, Adam Reaburn, says some buses carrying athletes arrived early, others a little late, but all in all, last night's athlete accreditation was a success.

This evening's Opening Ceremony will feature Olympic medallists Silken Laumann and Mellisa Hollingsworth.

In total, one-thousand athletes from across Northern B.C. will take part in 15 different sports, with the last medals being awarded on Sunday morning.
