Prince George Leisure Services has included in its base budget a little more than 66.5 thousand dollars for the salary (this year) for the position of a Social Policy Analyst, but there is still some work to be done before  the City starts advertising for the right candidate.

In its report to Council, Leisure Services  says that in the past 10 years, the City has made some significant steps forward in trying to  recognize and resolve social concerns.

The analyst would be  responsible for conducting research and analyzng data on a wide range of issues many of which have, in the past, been dealt with by the Community Planning Council.   The  person  who fills the job will be expected to identify key social issues and develop policy or program recommendations.

In approving the Leisure Services budget,  Council has in fact approved the position of a social planning analyst, however, City Manager Derek Bates says this position is linked with many of the other issues the City is already tackling like air quality and  environmental impacts so it would be helpful if Council would make a decision on  the full role the analyst would  play rather quickly.

The position is not considered a service enhancement as it would be funded by dollars which, in the past, had been channelled to the Community Planning Council for the same work.

FOR THOSE OF US THAT ARE GETTING A LITTLE LONG IN THE TOOTH. FOR THOSE OF US THAT WERE BROUGHT UP BY LOVING PARENTS,WITH THE ODD BACK HAND FROM DAD OR MOM. SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN WHAT A SOCIAL ANALYST DOES IN PLAIN ENGLISH. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT KIND OF PERSON HAS YET ANOTHER HAND IN MY POCKET. POCKET'S GETTIN' EMPTY OF CASH AND FULL OF HANDS...VERY UNCOMFORTABLE.
Aren't we all social analysts? After all, we analyze everything and conduct ourselves accordingly. But our problem is , nobody pays us. Simply put. Analyze this!!!!

Sounds like a jack or jill of all trades. Overextended before the work even starts. Make up your minds what you want this person to do that others in the community are not already doing and getting funding for through various resources.

There is quite a difference between an environmental planner and a social planner.
BTW ... high time to consider hiring a finacial analyst if the city is going to get into analyzing things. Of course, you get analyzers and you still need people who can synthesize the product of the analyzer.

Finally, an implementation specialist, otherwise nothing will ever get done.

This is really getting crazy ..... !!!
