The clock is ticking in finalizing the City of Prince George’s bid to host the Western Canada Summer Games in 2011.
Events Prince George’s Virginia Sprangers says all the information is “coming together”.
“We have a proof design of the logo that should be delivered by this afternoon. We will take some time to look it over and then the full package will be sent out Thursday in time for the Friday deadline.”
Sprangers says it won’t be long before P.G. will find out if it has made the short list of three possible sites “That will be known by the end of March or early April, and then there will be a site visit in April, with the final decision in early May.”
Just a little over a week ago Prince George City Council voted 5-3 in favour of supporting the bid to a tune of $1.05 million in cash and in-kind services.
So what does the Prince George bid have that will give it the edge?
Sprangers says facilities for one “We have the full infrastructure in place” says Sprangers who also says the regional aspect is a positive “This is not just a Prince George event, we are incorporating partnerships with other northern communities and there will be a strong cultural component with strong partnerships with the Aboriginal Business and Development Centre. We want this to be a real Northern B.C. event.”

Of course, being in the North, rather than the Central part of BC would also help.
