Campbell Going Back To China

Premier Gordon Campbell says the Province of BC must sell the rest of Canada on the idea of trade with China.

"We are having a tough time selling the rest of Canada on trade with China," he says, ‘they think it’s a regional thing and it isn’t”.

The Premier says, "In order to make that happen, we will need people like Trade Minister David Emerson to (convince the rest of the country of the trade opportunities.)"

Campbell says China wants to do business with all of Canada, not just BC.

To further cement ties to the area, the Premier is planning another business junket to China in the fall. He says it's crucial for trade discussions that the government of B.C. deal with the decision-maker.

Maybe he'll take Kinsley with him. Those politicians sure like to travel the world on our nickel while most of us have to stay home to pay the taxes for them to go.
"China wants to do business with all of Canada, not just BC"

Here I thought we were one country. How much of the goods coming though PR will be from China? I would think that those that are, will not be going to BC, but to the rest of Canada and the US.

BTW, 2007 may just be the year when Chinawill overtake Canada as the USA's largest trading partner. 2006 imports from Canada = US$303.4billion; from China = US$287.8billion.

The US imports 5 times the amount it exports to China. From Canada it is only 30% more.

China is after accessing Canada to increase their exports, not their imports.

For Canada, China is its second largest import country for a total of C$34.4billion. It is the 4th largest export destination at C$7.7billion in 2006. So, the ratio of imports to exports is quite similar to that of the USA - 5:1.

China obviously understands the value added business.

We are not in the list of top 10 trading partners with China. Top exporters to China - Japan, South Korea, Taiwan (yes, Taiwan) USA, Germany, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, Russia, Thailand.

Good luck to those negotiating trade with China. Time to get tougher and bring those ratios down, preferably by increasng exports to China rather than decreasing imports.
Figures that Campbell would want sell out Emerson on his side....
they make a wonderful pair...
maybe they will both stay there???
Drinking and driving there is a pretty severe sentence.....
Oh, give it up!
How many people on this site have taken the liberty to drink and drive? Or even had a spouse who has done so.
I think a lot of people posting are nothing but hypocrites.
Years go by, and they are still harping away at an error he made-while on holiday.
Let it go-stop being so damn childish!
Look at it this way our top cop, Campbell is a criminal....
anyone else in government, who pulled the same stunt, would have been forced to quit or been fired...
and he just bounces along laughing at everyone...
That my friend is childish...
but yes you are entitled to your opinion... and I respect it...
The so called, top cop, was not on duty, he was on holidays.
I have pesonally seen cops exit police cars so damn drunk they could not stand without leaning on the car.
Yes, they were driving, and in uniform.
I was friends with a number of officers. I respected and liked them. I become rather angry when remarks are made that I am a cop hater. Very untrue.
You obviously do not , or have not, known many M P's? I have, and they enjoyed a party as much as the average "Joe." They do not become less human when they are on "off" time, and do not automatically become criminals for drinking and driving. I do not agree with it-but I also do not believe Campbell did any laughing over the matter.
I would not call him the "childish" one.
If the shoe fits, it should be worn by the one entitled to it.
Got any ideas who that is?
