Premier Gordon Campbell says the top priority in the province is the reconstruction of Highway One in Kicking Horse Pass and after that, the twinning of Highway 97 and Highway 16.

"I hope during my time in office that these highways will be twinned,"  he says.

"The federal government has come forward with money for the Kicking Horse Pass, and we feel confident that Highways 16 and 97 - the Caribou Connector - will also qualify for some federal funding."

Speaking on Shaw TV to Opinion 250 News Editor Ben Meisner, Campbell also says that a cancer clinic for this area remains a high priority.

The Premier says, "I agree with the people of the North when they say, why we are always being asked to travel somewhere to get our medical attention, why can’t people travel to Prince George?"

He says the report that was prepared for Northern Health and submitted to his government last year was a very good report.  He adds, "I believe in it."

"We have to build the human resource first - those people to operate a cancer clinic - and then we can build a facility, I’m not going to make that commitment today," he says, "But I believe there will be some good news coming from Health Minister George Abbott in the future."

I think people travelling to Prince George for treatment would be a great idea. I suggest that Mr. Campbell and others of his ilk be the first to do so. Then he can go to the South East part of the Province and tell them to travel to Prince George, and then on the Terrace, Kitimat, and Prince Rupert and tell them they can take a bus to Prince George for treatment.

This guy leaves a lot to be desired. The only reason he is here to-day, is because of the NDP. If there was a viable alternative Campbell would be knocked out of the ball park.

Politics makes strange bedfellows.
Palopu ... you do not have to go to South Africa anymore to get a heart transplant. In fact, you no longer have to leave the country to get a heart transplant. Not only that, but you can get it in Vancouver ....

As procedures become more commonplace, they no longer have to be provided in central places.

Time to get head out of sand ...

time to let sand flow in the hour glass .....
I beleive that Mr Campbell will say what ever the people, in the area, he is presently slinking around in , want to hear, while he continues on his own agenda
Mr Campbell knows how to talk, and he remembers what he says because all his puppets repeat his speaches chapter and verse, but I really doubt he means very much of it, unless it is to his benefit or if it does dirt to someone...
My opinion and I would say this to his face in a heartbeat! Maybe not a good idea I would hate to see him cry....
"I beleive that ________________ will say what ever the people, in the area, s/he is presently slinking around in , want to hear, while he continues on his own agenda"

Put the name of your favourite politician in the space ........ or maybe not so favourite.

That is politics ... all things to all people ... an impossible task ... yet we continue to expect it and they continue to pretend they can do it.
Anyone watching Harper? .... He's getting pretty good at it. Scares me. Too many gullible people out there who believe him. Watch out for those blue-eyed types.....
Harper and Campbell were slinking around together just prior to Harper weaseling his way into government..
must be buds, comparing ways to "get" the people....and still say in business..
my opinion....
Campbell is full of ideas and promises but short on delivering to this part of the Province.

I don`t see any rubber meeting the road yet.............
HEY GORDO..
MONEY TALKS B.S. WALKS
My rubber met the new and improved roads when travelling by car to Osoyoos last summer.

What a huge difference compared to the almost complete cessation of highway building, maintenance and improvement during the ten NDP years!

Catching up completely can't be done overnight, but the Campbell government has already done an enormous amount of it.

Facts speak for themselves. Of course, some people will never admit it.
Facts speak for themselves and I have not seen any sizable contribution or funded vision for the Prince George area during the Campbell governments time in power.

Gordon says he hopes to see the twining of 16 and 97 during his time in power? Isn't the 97 Cariboo connection planned out over 75 years? I guess he is planning on being around after the next election? IF so then I suggest he take a serious look at getting the fed on board for a East-South-West ring road in PG to put some money to the words....

Time Will Tell
Campbell says what he feels he needs to say depending on which riding he is in.But it is only talk. And that is nothing new. This guy actually creeps me out!I could probably be talked into voting liberal again at some point in time, but never while this guy is driving the boat!I am always amazed at how is he able to win people over into thinking he actually gives a damn for anything other than power, money, and big business. He is a master at when to be in the spotlite and when to hide. And he would hang any of his ministers out to dry in the drop of a hat to save his own ass and they know that.He is the untimate control freak and a consumate bullshitter.(just watch his eyes dart around like a trapped rat)He has sat at the helm while our heathcare decended into chaos and fed us even more lies.To the point where it is now no longer fixable. And the lies are still coming. He would have us all believe that the Olympics are a great thing for all of B.C.when the only benefit will be to the lower mainland and big business. At our expense. He takes the considerable tax dollars that come from the north and spends it on the lower mainland. He knows that the bug kill will devastate our forest economy in the near future and denies it.We get the dregs.Nothing but lies and spin and the time will come when we will all see Gordon campbell for what he really is.Probably about the time when the true cost of the Olympics and the horendous cost overruns are known.A true master of deception. He has convinced so many that things are just great in B.C.Dig deep enough and it's not hard to figure out that this is not the case. There is a crash coming and sooner than later. He will eventually be eaten by his own party and seen for what he really is.He has destroyed the infrastructure of our province. He is a phoney but he WILL evetually be seen for what he really is.The worst Premier bc has ever seen.
"This guy actually creeps me out!" Familiar feeling! That's how I felt during all of the 10 years of NDP mismanagement and copious bovine manure spreading, until B.C. had declined from number #1 province in Canada to dead-last, i.e. number # 10 and a grateful recipient of federal have-not-province transfer funds!

When will a third party be started here in B.C. - one with an agenda that is not loaded down with all the obvious baggage from the past???

Neither the left nor the right should have the eternal strangle hold on power that they now flip-flop between in B.C.

Everyone I know is tired about always choosing the *lesser evil.*

You may not like Gordon Campbell, but a certain Mr. Clarke had a lot of people "creeped out" in B.C. as well - the result was a loss of all NDP seats except TWO!

Facts spoke for themselves.

I couldn't agree more diplomat.Until we have some alternatives to the usual Liberal/NDP strangle hold on this province, not much will ever change. And that alternative is NOT the Green party!!
And a cancer clinic in PG? We should have already had it by now but we don't.In fact, when you really step back and take a good look,we don't have much other than tidbits the that were thrown at us to shut us up.The university is probably all we will get for a long time to come and the government can't take much credit for that either. That just shows us exactly how important we are!Actually,I am suprised Campbell or his puppets even have the family jewels to show up around here.
