Prince George RCMP say a 60-year-old city woman was sent to hospital and her dog had to be euthanized, after the pair was charged by a mother moose escorting her two calves through the Pinewood subdivision earlier today.

Police say, fortunately, the woman suffered just minor injuries in the attack.  Students attending nearby Pinewood Elementary School were kept in the their classes after the charging, while conservation officers were dispatched to the area.

The officers felt the same trio of moose had ventured into the neighbhourhood earlier this month.  A decision was made to kill the mother over safety concerns for the public, she was located and put down.  It's believed that the calves are of an age that they will be able to survive on their own.

wow right in town...hope she recovers okay...condolences for her dog.
Too bad for the moose. Whenever we get one staying around here I make sure I know where she is. They have a temper alright, but as long as you are married you should be used to working around that.
It's too bad, for the moose and the dog. I wonder if the dog thought it had to protect the woman and was trying to chase the moose away and got stomped. The moose was just trying to protect her young. They are fierce when it comes to doing that, most animals are. I have lived in areas where moose and other wild animals have access to back yards and streets, the intelligent people in the neighborhood just made a point to be aware at all times. Some extra precaution on the parts of the humans (trust me, the wild animals are watching out for YOU too) can usually deter unwanted and unnecessary accidents.

Intelligence puts us at the top of the food chain, so I suppose those of us who are eaten by that food chain ....
A cow mose has been chasing people around the Cranbrook Hill area for a couple years now. They even have (or HAD, anyway) signs posted at Forests for the World advising people to beware of her. I wonder if this is the same moose.
Whynotyou, I am sure you are not questioning this unfortunate womans' intelligence, but in general I agree with what you said, stay the hell away from a cow moose with calves. I like the comment from YDP Cat, he is right, intelligent husbands know when to stay out of the way of the hormonal express, and how to successfully reply to "does this thong make my a** look big"?
Anyhow, I hope that somebody got some moosemeat out of the deal, why waste it?
Too bad about the dog though.
metalman.
Metalman,
I'm pretty sure the meat went to the Sally Ann.
Grandma got run over by a moose doesn't sound as cool as a reindeer. Does it?
Ha! hey metalman: No the thong doesn't make her a** look big.............her a** makes it look big!
Wasn't the women attacked on a street by the moose? I think so.
At any rate, its an unfortunate incident but expected as humans keep on building into wilderness areas.
I feel the SPCA should present the woman an award for her dog who gave the ultimate sacrifice for her beloved master.
