Northern Health has announced it has received $200-thousand dollars in funding to expand Stuart Lake Hospital in Fort St. James to accomodate six new complex care beds.

"These new beds will provide improved care for seniors who can no longer live independently, and enhance the range of health services that we offer to all seniors in Fort St. James," says Alice Downing on behalf of the Northern Health
Board.

The renovation and expansion project will add nearly 1200 square feet of space at the hospital’s south end. The project will also add a personal laundry facility, a kitchenette and dining area, a games area, and a secure outdoor seating area for
residents and visitors.  Seniors living at the facility will receive 24-hour a day nursing care and health services.

NH has put the project out to tender and interested contractors will have until mid-March to submit bids.  Construction is expected to start by May, with the beds to be open to seniors by the following spring 2008.
