Students graduating from School District 57 this June will have a few more chances at capturing a scholarship.

The school district will be offering five $1000.00 ’Springboard to Success’ scholarships this year, up from the two handed out last year.  And the Prince of Wales scholarship is being increased by five-hundred-dollars this year, to $2500.00.

SD57’s Manager of Finance, Allan Reed, says the funding from these scholarships comes from the return on a ’Springboard to Success’ endowment fund, held by the Prince George Community Foundation.

Reed says the district will be able to recognize three more students because of an increased fund balance and improved rates of return on th endowment.

In addition, the University of Northern BC and College of New Caledonia have announced they will match the scholarships.  "Any Springboard to Success Scholarship recipient who chooses to pursue their post-secondary education at UNBC or CNC will receive a $1000.00 tuition waiver, effectively making each of these scholarships worth $2,000.00," says Reed.

Anyone wishing to support the program can do so by making a tax deductible donation to the Prince George Community Foundation.  More information is available at the school district office, 561-6800.
