The Canadian Association of Veterans in United Nations Peacekeeping, Prince George, is just a year old, and 6 members of the branch appeared before Prince George City Council this week to share some info and an honour.

The presentation was designed as both an introduction to the group and an opportunity to present the Association’s objectives.

Bob Whipps is the President of the Prince George- Northern B.C. Chapter says there are three main objectives:

1. Assist peacekeepers or their families  on issues  arrising from their peacekeeping duties

2.Commemorate those who died while peacekeeping duty

3.Educate the public about the  role of the peacekeeper

More than 100 thousand Canadians have taken part in peacekeeping duties since  1947.  That is more than any other nation.

The President of the Association  presented Mayor Colin Kinsley with a beret and shirt, making him an honourary member of the Peacekeeping  Veterans Association.  Kinsley was a primary reservist, but not a peacekeeper. The Mayor was caught off guard by the honour, saying "It very much touches my heart."

Wow, I didn't know you had a heart Kinsley.... I guess I learned something today....
Might be just a matter of time before he gets the honour of being a "honorary travel agent" from Tourism BC, too. Could happen.
He definitely has some frequent air miles.
What can I say? I'm speechless!
well--maybe as close to speechless as I've ever been.
