The Northern Sports Center has taken another step.
Chairman of the Sports Centre Board of Directors, Cliff Dezell, says a number of proposals to design, build and operate the Sport Center have been received, and are being evaluated.
Those evaluating the proposals will present their recommendations to the Board of Directors today.
Dezell says they are by no means close to a detailed design, but they know what they want, a track, gym, physiotherapy and sports medicine, research facility in addition to a weight room, club house and concession space.
They are pushing to make the building a showcase for wood.
The Province has already committed $20.5 million dollars, the City of Prince George and University are committed to raising $10 million and cover $600,000 operating dollars each year.
Chairman Dezell says “It is our intention that this will be run by a private operator. So far we know of no reason why this won’t work.”
It is hoped the Center will be operational by early 2007.
