Cariboo Cougars Take the Major Midget Semi-final to the Limit

Cariboo Cougars snapped a 1-1 tie with 3 second period goals in an 8-3 victory over the Fraser Valley Bruins at the Coliseum to force a third and deciding game in the BC Hockey Major Midget League semi-final. Fraser Valley trailed 4-3 after 40 minutes, but the Prince George based major midgets erupted for 4 unanswered third period goals. Joe Morgan and Brandon Manning each had two goals for the Cougars in a total team effort to tie the best-of- three series 1-1.

“I think we were better prepared tonight,” Manning said. “They pounced on us in the second period in game one, tonight we were more focused in what we needed to do, a lot more relaxed.”

Cariboo Cougars outshot the Fraser Valley Bruins 44-24, connecting on 3 of 5 power play opportunities. Fraser Lake product Damien Ketlo posted the victory in the Cougars net. The deciding game goes at 3:30 PM Sunday at Kin One Centre. The winner will take on the Vancouver Northwest Giants next weekend, the Giants swept the Okanagan Rockets in the other best-of three MML semi-final.
