The Kelly Road Roadrunners completed their best ever finish at the premier showcase of BC high school boys basketball. The Roadrunners defeated Burnaby South 63-60 for a ninth overall placing in the 20 team triple-A boys high school basketball championship at the Vancouver Agrodome. The ‘Runners are the first north central team since the champion 1980 Duchess Park Condors to finish in the top ten of the provincial tournament. The’Runners dropped their opener 82-71 to Oak Bay, then handled Caledonia Terrace 61-41 and Mount Baker of Cranbrook 77-59 before the tight victory over Burnaby. Kelly Road finished the high school basketball season at 37-3.

A footnote to the triple-A boys provincials, former Duchess Park Condor Nathan Yu, who was tourney MVP  when the Condors won last year’s double-A BC high school basketball title, earned second team all-star honours in Vancouver. Yu had 21 points in leading Vancouver College to a victory in the game for third place at the triple-A tourney
