CN Off Tracks in Hixon, 5th Accident This Month

No one was hurt, no need for any evacuations, and CN says the derailment that took place at Hixon Friday is minor.
Four cars left the tracks,and CN confirms that a “few shovelfuls “of Sodium Chlorate powder were dumped from one of the cars, only one car was full at the time.
CN did however acknowledge that three grass fires were created by the derailment and were quickly put out by locals.
Meantime local’s point to CN’s record where five derailments have taken place along their lines in the past few weeks.
One Hixon resident added "They say that it was only a few shovelfuls but what if it had been a whole car full that had spilled for example either into the tiny community or the nearby creek which is a salmon bearing stream.?"
Meantime members of the Ministry of the Environment are on the scene along with a Hazardous Materials team from Edmonton.
CN police are not allowing anyone else near the scene.
