The Northern Health Authority says that 19 positions for nurses have been offered at a recent Employment forum held in Manchester, England, with another 24 nurses expressing interest.
It will take about six months to get them through the immigration process.
Most are specialty nurses who want to work in the Pacific northwest of BC for Northern Health says CEO Malcolm Maxwell.  "We are very pleased at what we have been able to accomplish in the recruiting process."
Right now, Northern Health has  65 full time vacancies  for nurses.

More nurses is a good thing, but I hope their training and certification is up to par with BC nurses. BC nurses are sought after all over the world because of their credentials. I would want a BC nurse looking after me rather than a lesser trained individual.
If and when these nurses arrive in Canada,it will be interesting to see just where in B.C. they end up working. My bet is on the bigger centers and none for the smaller communities. What incentives were they offered to come to B.C.?
I can't help but wonder if these potential recruits got their information from the Northern Health Authority,or were they able to speak to other nurses and doctors as well, who are familiar with the actual working conditions for a nurse in the present system? You know...that same system that the government won't admit is failing badly?
I would be more than happy to see these nurses join the system. They are much needed.Guess we will have to wait and see how it is handled.Based on past performance by the government,it's kind of hard to get excited.
I feel sorry for where we robbed them from. They are short of nurses overseas as well and now we just stole more away from them.
I think its got to be an easy sale to people living in the zoo of humanity over in those parts of the world. To bad the same consept isn't applied to attracting human capital based commerical enterprise.
If the health unit would hire nurses from here full-time rather than part-time they would likely atract many more. And let's not forget that Prince George trains nurses at CNC and UNBC, surely many of them would work here if they could get hired for full-time work.
