A house fire on South Nicholson  in Prince George last night  broguht out crews from two firehalls.

Firecrews got the call just after nine last night,  the  first on the scene found thick smoke coming from the back door of a residence in the 300 block.  Three adults and two  children were home at the time, all escaped without injury.  A 5 month old puppy was rescued from the main floor.

FIrefighters say the fire was caused by a flash from the water heater igniting boxes of magazines and other papers stored against it.  Damage was limited to the basement area immediately surrounding the water heater.

It would be interesting, statistically, to note if the number of house fires go up as a result of the increase in gas prices and people turn to electric heaters to keep their gas bills affordable.
In response to Foo; ??

It wouldnt surprise me if foo was right. I have seen a lot of people use their ovens to heat the house when they neglected to pay their gas bill. Of course the bottom line isnt an arguement for lower gas prices. It is for using a lot more caution with space heaters than we do with our gas furnaces. Also, isnt using more electricity to save on gas robbing peter to pay paul?
There are people who can't afford the increase in gas prices. How does an increase of $40 per month sound? Maybe not much to you but to people on a limited income it is more than they can handle. We are all in this together.
