Traffic and Weather Together
By 250 News
Drive BC has added something new. Just in time for the long weekend, it has added a weather feature to its webcam page.
putting traffic and weather together should help travellers not only know current road conditions, but the forecast from Envrionment Canada should offer some idea as to what can be expected.
The page above is a illustration of what you might have seen if you had visited the site yesterday afternoon. Here's how you can access the information:
Visit www.drivebc.ca. then click on the highway camera link on the left hand side of the page. That will take you to the BC HighwayCam site. Once you are on the BC
HighwayCam site, there are three ways to find weather information associated with each camera:
- Click on a thumbnail image. When the large image page opens, find the red "weather information" button below the image. Click on the button and weather information for that camera will appear.
- On the left navigation bar, click on "Regional Maps," and select a region. The maps have yellow triangle symbols, which represent weather stations. Click on the yellow triangles for roadside weather station information.
- If you have a PDA or slow bandwidth, go to the "Weather Information PDA Index" (link). There will be a list of weather stations, route forecasts, and links to weather warnings.
Weather station reports will have "current weather" display panels,. That means you will have detailed information on air temperature, precipitation, wind speed, wind direction and, where available, road surface temperature. The weather station reports are updated hourly.
